The visions for Cardenden

The vision for Cardenden

The vision for Cardenden is to:

  • Deliver 5,000 new homes of mixed types and tenure (including a minimum of 25% affordable housing, approximately 1,250 homes) that appeal to future residents and the mass markets whilst meeting the highest sustainable energy standards through building design and renewable energy provision.
  • Recognise the individual identities of the four existing communities of Auchterderran, Bowhill, Cardenden and Dundonald - and develop social cohesion and community building by delivering real improvements to the physical and environmental fabric of these areas.
  • Sensitively integrate new housing with the existing village.
  • Deliver a new revitalised town centre which will be a catalyst for commercial activity and community engagement and which will be developed in partnership with existing businesses and agencies.
  • Create an attractive environment for investment, including the provision of quality work space for existing and new businesses leading to the creation of new employment opportunities.
  • Work with the council and local education providers to deliver training opportunities in construction and eco-industries.
  • Improve existing housing stock, enhance existing facilities and provide new community facilities including education, social, health, leisure, employment and a cemetery, as well as quality sporting and recreation areas.
  • Deliver a network of renewable energy sources and systems with the aim of achieving a zero-carbon community.
  • Develop an integrated waste minimisation, management and recycling strategy dedicated to Cardenden.
  • Create inspiring and practical public spaces including the development of wildlife corridors and parks accessible to the whole community; a development at one with nature.
  • Deliver an integrated transport network with the aim of providing the community with easy access to public transport.
  • Create an environment which promotes healthy and renewable lifestyles appropriate for 21st Century Scotland.
  • Utilise the existing rail and road network to strengthen economic and commercial links throughout Fife i.e. Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline and Glenrothes, as well as with the larger economic centres of Dundee and Edinburgh.
