Doe Hill was worked for coal from 1995 until 1999 and involved the extraction of approximately 250,000 tonnes of coal. It was restored in two stages with three quarters of the site being restored in October 1999 and the other third in May 2005. The site covers some 51ha with a variety of land uses from agriculture, forestry and a country park with a recreation area and a conservation area with two wetland features.

The site is accessible by both pedestrians and horse riders with purpose built tracks for both uses. These also link into footpaths and bridal ways on our neighboring scheme Stonebroom There is also car parking available if people who wish to use the community park for organized events.

The road running thought the site; Love Lane which was removed during the working of the site has now been constructed. Landscaping works have now been completeded which inlcuded construction of a bridleway and hedgerow and woodland planting

The woodland planting covering some twenty one hectares or some fifty two thousand trees comprising of native broadleaves such as Field Maple / Alder / Birch / Oak and shrub species Hazel / Hawthorn / Elder / Rowan. The majority of the planting was established five years ago with four and a half hectares being planted during 2005.

The wetland area has been established for some time now and has produced an attractive environment for Wildlife. Bird species such as Mute Swans, Great Crested Grebe, Common Buzzard, Little Ringed Plover, Snipe, Kingfisher just to name a few of the birds which have been seen on the site.
