North EastShotton Surface MineShotton, near Cramlington, Northumberland Site Status: Site operational Local Authority: Northumberland County Council The Shotton surface mining scheme was given permission to go ahead by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in November 2007, following an appeal process held earlier in the year.
Work is currently ongoing to establish the site.
The Shotton surface mining scheme will deliver the following benefits:
The company is committed to its ‘development with care’ ethos and aims to meet the high standards it has achieved with surface mining projects elsewhere, not least at the nearby Delhi site. This includes using innovative new ways to suppress dust, keeping noise and vibration to an acceptable level, dealing promptly with any issues and working closely with the local community. In addition, restoration plans include the creation of a new country park with the exciting landform project known as Northumberlandia. An advisory group to oversee this development will be set up in due course, involving local wildlife, arts, tourism and conservation organisations.
Up-to-date information such as environmental monitoring reports and community newsletters will be added to this page as they become available.
