North East43 - 46 Old ElvetSite Status: Pre planning work underway Local Authority: Durham City Council As part of the Elvet Waterside development, Banks Esh Ltd, the joint venture company set up by Banks Developments and Esh Group, has started work on planning the refurbishment of four of the grade 2 listed buildings on Old Elvet. The properties, 43 -46 Old Elvet are all currently used by Durham University as offices, meeting rooms and teaching facilities. It is the intention to return these important buildings back to residential use.
Numbers 44, 45 and 46 would be refurbished and returned to single townhouse dwellings, whilst number 43, an imposing 18th Century property, would be converted to apartments. All the original period features inside the properties would be retained as part of the refurbishments, and Banks has already had initial discussions with Durham City Council’s conversation officer about the key considerations and sensitivities around refurbishing listed properties such as these. A planning application for change of use and a listed buildings application for the internal works is likely to be submitted before the end of the year. |
