Wolsingham Steelworks

Wolsingham Village,
Weardale, County Durham
Site Status: Outline planning application approved
Local Authority: Wear Valley District Council

Banks Developments is promoting a mixed residential and employment use development on the site of the Wolsingham Steelworks. The site covers six hectares which will include new public open space along the riverside with improved public access.

Economic and environmental circumstances dictate that foundry operations are no longer viable in this location and therefore the foundry is being decommissioned.

The closure of the steelworks will leave large redundant buildings and ground contamination; our proposals involve the remediation of the site and the provision of 149 new homes along with high quality business units. There will be an element of affordable housing.

The planning application has been approved by Wear Valley District Council. Before consent is issued we must sign a legal agreement with the council. Work will then commence on detailed planning applications.
