Moss Nook

Worsley Brow, St. Helens
Site Status: Works currently suspended
Local Authority: St. Helens Council

The Banks Group submitted a planning application in December 2003 and a supplementary statement in October 2004 for the remediation of this derelict area of land just south of St. Helens Town Centre.

We have worked alongside the council and other interested parties to develop a masterplan for the 133 acre site, which will provide approximately 1,200 homes and one hectare of commercial development. The regeneration of this site will include remediation of the land, which was previously used for industrial uses. Banks aim to create a new sustainable urban village for families with extensive landscaping. The Moss Nook site is part of wider regeneration proposals for this area of St. Helens, which the Council continue to work towards.

Following the grant of planning permission work started on the site at the end of August 2007. Initial site works included safety fencing around the perimeter of the site, the construction of the works access, the site compound, offices and welfare facilities for the construction staff.

Preparation of the first housing area is complete. However, in response to current market conditions we have decided to suspend our operations on site. Banks has put in place a comprehensive site works suspension plan. This plan will ensure that appropriate health & safety and environmental protection measures are in place. We will continue to inspect the site on a regular basis.
