Glenboig Village

Glenboig, North Lanarkshire
Site Status: Masterplan development through consultation
Local Authority: North Lanarkshire Council

The Glenboig Village site takes into account the existing settlement and provides a new neighbourhood centre and improvements to the centre of the Village as well as developing the land around it, much of which has been blighted by industrial use. Almost 50% of the site suffers from historic undermining which will be remediated before any other work is carried out.

This development, which could see the construction of around 1,200 homes, will complement the adjacent sites which are being developed for employment use such as Scottish Enterprise’s proposed business park at Gartcosh.

A key aim of the project is sustainability, which can be seen through the upgrading of the Village’s Main Street and Square, improved public transport links and the housing needed to support the additional jobs being created locally.

A public exhibition held in summer 2005 revealed support from local residents for the proposals.
